Despite both being durable, ultra-precise and reliable, there are significant differences to note between the two. The Explorer and submariner are the perfect pair in my opinion. The only other Rolex I would consider getting is a GMT Pepsi or an Explorer II for the gmt function. explorer because I want a GMT and I don't want 2 rolexes with the identical dial and similar bezel. If you think you'd be OK without one and/or you rotate through more than one watch, no date is probably better for symmetry and convenience. I rotate through a few but I like having the date so I got the date.
