You could switch to a Tag/Breitling deployant type clasp (with a matching band) that grips the strap and does not use the holes, so the adjustments are infinite, as one suggestion. If you squeeze the rubber a bit, you will see the bars and be able to use a small appropriate screw driver to depress the bars to remove them.
